Upwey to Airlie Beach

We left Melbourne very late Tuesday afternoon approx 4pm as I needed my haircut first. As it was late we caught the peak hour traffic so decided to stop in Seymour and that was an experience. The caravan park had 4 stars, which I think they painted on themselves. We sat around a fire in a half gallon drum with some of the other campers and the park owner.

We spent the next night in West Wyalong and tonight we are in Coonabarrabran and it will be a late start in the morning as we need an auto electrician because the seven pin trailer plugs have shorted. Tony did have someone in West Wyalong look at it as some of the lights weren't coming on the van, not sure if he did anything.

We haven't taken any photos yet, nothing to take. We are just meandering along and yesterday was extremely windy. Last night we had a wild night (weather wise) rain and wind.

Last days of our holiday

On Sunday we took a drive up to Haleakala Crater which was about a two and a half hour drive. We drove up through the clouds, elevation 10,000 feet, and when we reached the top we were above the clouds.

There was a partial eclipse of the sun which we were able to see through telescopes that a group had set up there. Have also taken a couple of photos of the sun.

On our way back we went to the Maui Tropical Plantation and they drove us around in a little train drawn by a tractor (no train tracks).

Monday we just lazed around, had a swim in the morning and then after lunch we went snorkeling and then dinner at Basil Tomatoes. Louise if you are reading this, I had Pasta Primavera and the whole top of the pasta was covered in vegetables as in broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms and peppers.

It is Tuesday today, not sure what we are going to do but it won't be much. We leave tomorrow morning and arrive home very late Thursday night. We gained a day on the way over but lose it on the way home, I dare say that makes us square.

Pasta Primavera, this is not how it arrived I had already started eating.

My tattoo that I had done at the conference, supposed to disappear in a week, still there.

See you all soon

Maui

Our third day in Maui. Yesterday we took a drive up through Kapalua and further and as we have a rental car there is a section of road up further where we are not allowed to drive so we turned around and came back. When we got back we put our bathers on and went down to the beach, the Outrigger has a Cabana (not food) a beach house and went snorkeling. Not a lot to see but some very small fish and a very large turtle.

Today we have relaxed and have just come back from the shops trying to find something to eat for dinner, all the meat looks awful so we settled for something out of the freezer, lasagne.

Cheryl, I have finished reading your book, a great book which has left me thinking every time we eat out about the food not just eating but really thinking about the making of it. Our entree we had at our gala dinner - 'Love Apple' Carpaccio with farm greens, Surfing goats cheese and candied walnuts, rare volcano honey, Onion marmalade and tarragon dressing. I could say this was sublime.

These photos were taken on our drive yesterday.

These are of our unit and the grounds.

Last Night in Waikiki

Conference ends tonight with the gala dinner at the Royal Hawaiian and tomorrow we fly to Maui which we are looking forward to 6 days and nights of relaxing at a slower pace.

Yesterday we revisited Pearl Harbour which was good to see again. When we got back to the hotel we visited the Army Museum which was very interesting. Last night we had the dine around sponsored by AIA and TAL. Very enjoyable. We left reasonably early and walked back to the hotel.

Today I had my last session and after lunch we were driven to Diamond Head and did the walk. Fairly easy and the scenery up the top was spectacular.

That's it for now and we will continue to enjoy the sun while we can.

The photos below are from the Army Museum.

Day 4 in Hawaii

Last night we had the welcome luau, Hawaiian singers, dancers and a fire dancer.

Started the day with Tony sleeping after breakfast whilst I went on a Spiritual Tour. Went to the cemetery where all the Kings and Queens are buried and then a drive around the island to see a lot of the Hawaiian culture and scenery.

The picture above is where some of The Pirates of the Caribbean was made.

This fruit is the noni fruit (not sure of spelling). This is supposed to clean out the body of toxins.

This is our tour guide who played his ukulele and sang most of the way. The tour went for two hours.

Just had dinner at Chris's Steak House, Tony had eye fillet and I had snapper with ginger and soy sauce. Lovely dinner topped of with a bottle of Chianti.

Waikiki day 2

Day 2 after a good nights sleep. Dinner last night at il lupino's. Superb! Breakfast this morning ordinary. Bright sunshine (see photos) wish you were here. Relaxing today, not overly fussed about getting too adventurous.
